7.5 Mechanical Processes | Scoring/V-Cut
Scoring is used for the mechanical pre-processing or pre-separation of PCBs.
V-scoring is performed in a similar way to milling. Two scoring cutters engage in the PCB material from one or both sides of the PCB in a defined way, thereby creating a V-shaped predetermined breaking point (web).
PCD (polycrystalline diamond) and carbide tools are used within this context.
Score lines can only be straight, i.e., can only run horizontally or vertically, typically from one outer edge of the PCB to another one located opposite.
Jump scoring is possible, which means that there are gaps in the scored contour along the traversing axis.
The scoring blades require an entry and exit path.
Scoring lines/V-cuts that are not straight or turned can be produced with a suitable milling tool on the milling machine using milled technology.
